About 5,800 pairs of Joe Fresh boys sports sandals, were recalled Monday, May 30 by Health Canada because of a fall hazard.

The sandals were sold from March to May of this year, at numerous local stores, including Real Canadian Superstore, no-frills, Extra Foods, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, Joe Fresh and Your Independent Grocer, all Loblaw banner stores.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Joe Fresh Boys Sport Sandals and return the product to any Loblaw banner store where Joe Fresh apparel is sold for a full refund (a receipt is not required),” Health Canada said on its website.

The hazard lies with the cord lock, which may release the laces resulting in a fall hazard for children, according to Health Canada.

While there haven’t been any consumer reports to Health Canada about incidents or injuries, Loblaw Companies Limited has received two reports in Canada of children tripping and falling, with one involving a minor injury.

Sold in grey and navy blue with the style code KBS6FW2040, and manufactured in China, the shoes were distributed by Ontario’s Loblaw Companies Limited.
