Eight people were arrested in Surrey on Wednesday afternoon as part of an ongoing RCMP investigation into a dial-a-dope operation.
Surrey RCMP made the arrests at a number of different locations in the city. Police also uncovered evidence "consistent with street level drug trafficking," such as cash, cellphones and drugs.
Four suspects from Surrey remain in police custody on outstanding warrants for drug trafficking.
Ravinder Samra, 29, was wanted on one count of trafficking, Hazim Hazim, 20, and Tony Tran, 30, are facing two counts each, while Peter Butcher, 52, was wanted on three counts.
"Today’s arrests are part of a larger strategy to decrease the violence in our city caused by the dangerous activities of drug traffickers plying their illegal trade on our streets," Surrey RCMP Proactive Enforcement Officer, Insp. Shawna Baher, said Wednesday. "The Surrey RCMP continues to advance investigations on a number of individuals that pose the most significant risk to public safety."
RCMP expect to make further arrests related to the investigation and are seeking additional information on four people wanted on drug trafficking charges: Priya Sandhu, 23, of Richmond, and Surrey residents Abdulhamid Sulta, 20, James Griffiths, 43, and Layla Low, 22.
