A large donation by a Surrey-based credit union to the Surrey Food Bank will help support local families who rely on the food bank for essential supplies.

In a news release, Kim Savage, the executive director of Surrey Food Bank, expressed her gratitude for Coast Capital's $30,000 donation and the support of its employees.

"Their $30,000 donation will make a tremendous difference in the lives of many families in Surrey, and the time and energy that their employees have given to volunteer with us is truly inspiring," Savage said. "Coast Capital continues to be a vital partner in our mission to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.”

On Sept. 16, a team of 22 employees from Coast Capital spent the morning volunteering at the food bank.

"The hands-on support provided by these dedicated volunteers were invaluable in helping the Surrey Food Bank meet the needs of the community during a busy fall ramp-up," Savage said.

The credit union has been contributing to the Surrey Food Bank since 2005.

“The partnership between Coast Capital and the Surrey Food Bank highlights the powerful impact that local businesses can have when they invest in social responsibility. By not only donating funds but also contributing their time and resources, Coast Capital has set a strong example for other organizations looking to make a meaningful difference in their communities,” noted Savage.

The food bank serves clients in Surrey and North Delta who live north of 40 Avenue. It helps more than 17,000 clients monthly, with 42 per cent being under 19.
