One man is in hospital with "serious injuries to his chest" after a suspected stabbing in Whalley Friday.
Surrey police responded to a reported stabbing around 9 a.m. at a supportive housing complex in the 13900 block of 104 Avenue.
A 50-year-old man was found with serious injuries and was transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition, Surrey Police said in a news release Friday (Dec. 6).
A 34-year-old male suspect was located by police nearby, arrested and taken into custody.
The non-profit Connective operates the BC Housing complex and told the Now-Leader in an email that no one else was injured.
"Connective is committed to providing a safe and inclusive space for residents, their guests, and our staff. We are working closely with the appropriate authorities to understand this incident in greater detail," a spokesperson from Connective said.
They could not comment further due to the ongoing police investigation.
In April 2021, the province bought the former Travel Lodge hotel through BC Housing.
Connective staff are on-site at all times to provide support services, including meals, life skills, health and personal development programs, cultural supports, access to health and wellness supports, and referrals to health services.
The complex opened its doors in the summer of 2022. BC Housing said the units are for individuals who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. A number of the units are for people who identify as Indigenous.
