Smoke cleared out the Cloverdale Legion Feb. 11.
An eyewitness told the Cloverdale Reporter patrons inside had smelled something burning just before 8 p.m.
That's when the Surrey Fire Service (SFS) was called and the Legion was evacuated.
An SFS member got up on the roof and appeared to spray water along the edge of the roof where it meets the wall.
"Up on the roof, just at the edge of it, there was smoke coming out, which is above the kitchen," said Jason Sveinson, a Black Press Media freelancer, who was on the scene. "I went in and looked at the kitchen afterwards and didn't see any damage inside."
Sveinson said he thinks all the damage was contained inside the wall.
The Legion reopened at about 10 p.m.
More info to come.
