Delta police say they have identified the driver and seized the vehicle alleged to have seriously injured a pedestrian in a hit-and-run on Jan. 26.
The crash happened at about 7 a.m. at the intersection of 66th Avenue and Scott Road in North Delta, according to a Delta Police news release.
Officers arrived to find a seriously injured man, but the vehicle and driver involved had left the scene. Scott Road was closed in both directions for several hours between Wade Road and 64th Avenue as analysts worked the scene, before reopening to traffic around 2:30 p.m.
The pedestrian is a 25-year-old Surrey man who suffered “serious and extensive” injuries, police say, and remains in hospital in critical but stable condition.
The morning of Jan. 29, investigators issued a call for the public's help in identifying the suspect vehicle, releasing CCTV images of what they believed to be a black 2011 or 2012 Honda Accord four-door sedan. Police say the car received moderate damage to its front end from the collision.
Investigators said they were looking to speak with two passengers the suspect vehicle dropped off at Strawberry Hill Shopping Centre prior to the incident, and again appealed to the driver to contact the DPD.
The next day, the department issued a release saying investigators had located and seized the suspect vehicle on Jan. 29 and identified the driver.
"We would like to thank the public who provided information," the department said in its release.
"Further investigation remains outstanding and no further information will be released at this time."
