Charges laid against second suspect in Surrey shooting

Two people were injured in a shooting in Newton on the evening of Dec. 16, 2024 with two now charged.

A second suspect has been charged in the December 2024 shooting in Newton that injured a husband and wife while their young child was nearby.

On the evening of Dec. 16, 2024, Surrey Police responded to a call from a woman reporting that both she and her husband had been shot while in a residential neighbourhood in the 12600-block of 67B Avenue in Surrey. Their young child was in a car nearby but was unharmed in the incident.

Nearly a month later, a 21-year-old Squamish man, Gagandeep Singh Bakshi, was charged in connection with the shooting that left the two victims with serious injuries, police stated. Bakshi was charged with one count each of attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent and aggravated assault, as well as two counts of assault with a weapon.

Months later on April 22, 2025, Quebec RCMP located the second suspect, Yuvraj Singh, in Montée Glass, Que. Singh has now been charged with one count each of attempted murder and aggravated assault, two counts of discharging a firearm with intent to wound and two counts of assault with a weapon.

According to court services online, Bakshi is not in custody, while Singh is, and the two are scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court. Singh will appear in court on May 15 while Bakshi will appear in court the following day.

Surrey Police are continuing to investigate the shooting and are still appealing to the public for more information. Anyone who would like to speak to police about the incident is asked to call the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 24-179884.
