Thousands brrr-ing in 2025 at White Rock's Polar Bear Plunge

Splashy start to new year

Thousands of revellers – from the young to young-at-heart, both cheery and chilled – rang in 2025 with a chilly dip in Semiahmoo  Bay, as participants in the annual Polar Bear Plunge.

Drawing a "huge" waterfront presence, as well as a pier packed with those more inclined to watch than dunk, the event was "awesome," said co-chair Scott Harrold, estimating the turnout at 3,000-plus.

The eldest "polar bear" to participate was a youthful 84 years old, he noted.

The long-running tradition was presented with support from Rotary, the City of White Rock, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Unit 5 (Crescent Beach) and UA Local 170, as well as numerous sponsors.
