Two Paralympian swimmers from Surrey have been busy competing in Paris, France for the Paralympic Games.
Sebastian Massabie, 19, continued his trend of breaking swimming records, beating his Canadian record in his morning heat Friday (Aug. 30), then lowered it again in the final to finish fifth in the 100-m S4 freestyle, according to the Swimming Canada website.
Massabie touched the wall in 1:22.53 in the final. He was more than a second faster than his morning time of 1:23.80, which lowered his previous Canadian record by .08, the site notes.
On Tuesday, Massabie finished sixth in the Men's S4 200m freestyle finals after a third-place finish in his morning heat.
Another Surrey swimmer, Arianna Hunsicker, 21, competed in the Women's S10 100m freestyle Sunday (Sept. 1), finishing seventh in her heat.
On Monday, she participated in the 4x100-m mixed 34-point medley relay team, swimming freestyle along with Saskatoon's Shelby Newkirk (swimming the backstroke), Burnaby's Fernando Lu (breaststroke) and Edmonton's Reid Maxwell (butterfly).
They finished eighth in 4:50.00.
It was the first time the race was held at the Paralympics.
