Surrey & Delta see surge in advance voting for 2025 federal election

Advance voter turnout up more than 40% in multiple Surrey ridings – and 63.6% in Delta

The Surrey riding with the biggest increase in advance voter turnout was Surrey- Newton, up 46 per cent from the 2021 election.

Every federal riding in Surrey saw an increase in the number of people voting in advance in the 2025 federal election. 

Advance voting took place from April 18 to 21. Surrey residents cast their ballots in one of seven possible ridings: Surrey Centre, Surrey Newton, Fleetwood-Port Kells, Cloverdale-Langley City, Langley Township-Fraser Heights, South Surrey-White Rock or Delta.

The Delta riding, which contains a sliver of Surrey, saw a whopping 63.6 per cent increase from the 2021 election. Preliminary numbers show 28,667 people used advance voting for this election, compared to 17,518 in 2021.

The Surrey riding with the biggest increase in advance voter turnout was Surrey-Newton, up 46 per cent from the 2021 election. Preliminary numbers show 18,451 people used advance voting for this election compared to 12,637 in 2021.

In Cloverdale-Langely City, 23,965 people used advance voting for this election compared to 20,042 in 2021, a 19.6 per cent increase. Surrey City Centre saw 17,827 people show up to vote in advance compared to 12,578 in 2021, up 41.7 per cent.

South Surrey-White Rock saw a 41.3 per cent increase in advanced voting turnout this election, with 31,269 casting their ballots early compared to the 22,129 that did in 2021. 

Fleetwood-Port Kells also saw a 29.4 per cent increase, with 24,103 voting early compared to 18,628 in 2021. 

Many of these ridings had their boundaries redrawn in 2023.  

The Langley Township-Fraser Heights, which was formerly Langley- Aldergrove, saw 21,931 that voted in 2021. In the newly drawn riding, 31,154 people cast their vote in advance of the 2025 election. 

An estimated 7.3 million Canadians voted in the advance federal election polls over Easter weekend, Elections Canada said Tuesday

Elections Canada stated on X that it was a "record number of Canadians" that voted during advance polls. The number represents a 25 per cent increase from the 5.8 million who voted in advance in the 2021 general election. Provincewide, advance voting was up 37 per cent, with 1,104,151 British Columbians casting their ballot. That’s up from 804,116 in 2021.
