A pedestrian is dead in Surrey after a fatal collision involving a transit bus near 128 Street and 76 Avenue.
On Sunday, Oct. 27, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Surrey RCMP received a report of a vehicle collision in the 7600-block of 128 Street involving a pedestrian.
Despite life-saving efforts, one person was declared dead at the scene, an RCMP release said.
A Black Press freelancer on scene reported the collision involved a TransLink bus, with video and photos from the scene. What happened leading up to the collision is not yet known.
Surrey RCMP's Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) is currently on scene and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) has been called in as well.
Police noted 128 Street is currently closed both north- and south-bound between 76 Avenue and 76A Avenue. Traffic in the surrounding areas has been impacted and drivers can expect significant delays.
The closure will remain in effect for an undetermined amount of time while investigators process the scene; the investigation is in the early stages and investigators are working to identify all factors that led to this fatality.
