Peace Arch Hospital celebrates 70th birthday in White Rock

Seven decades of care celebrated at Peninsula healthcare facility

Although Sunday started out grey, the clouds cleared up and the sun shone just in time for a special birthday party.

Peace Arch Hospital celebrated 70 years of care in the east parking lot on Sunday (Aug. 25) in a two-hour event that combined fun, food and fundraising, with a band playing live music throughout.

With a bouncy castle going for youngsters the entire time, as well as balloon animals and a kid-friendly obstacle course, White Rock firefighters were busy grilling up hot dogs and also, took turns in the dunk tank – along with doctors and other volunteers – to help raise funds for the hospital.

The family friendly event was also a fundraiser to support Peace Arch Hospital Foundation's $10 million campaign for new medical imaging equipment, the celebration attracted plenty of people who enjoyed the games, birthday treats, raffle prizes and more.

“What a wonderful way to celebrate Peace Arch Hospital, with more than 300 members of the community – including hospital staff and patients and their families – coming out to join the party," Peace Arch Hospital Foundation CEO Stephanie Beck said Monday.

"We are still counting donations and are thrilled to announce we had an additional outstanding gift come in from the Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary, who donated $500,000 towards medical imaging! We are so grateful for this generous community.”
