Spring is here and that means it's also, sailing time.

Crescent Beach Yacht Club hosts its annual spring sail past event on Saturday, May 10 and this year, the club is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

A long-standing tradition, the sail past marks marking the "official" opening of boating season, a yacht club email noted,

Spectators are invited to join onshore to watch the parade of decorated boats sail past the Commodore, Rob Pengelly, who will be anchored near Crescent Beach pier.

A favourite event among members, the sail past's flotilla will be lead by RCMSAR, the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue vessel, and White Rock Sea Tours, followed by private members from the Crescent Beach Yacht Club (weather conditions permitting), from 3 to 5 p.m. May. 10. The parade will travel from Crescent Beach Marina, at the mouth of the Nicomekl River (where the marina is located), under the rail bridge, past Blackie Spit to Crescent Beach pier, then returning home to the marina.

The Crescent Beach Yacht Club was founded in 1975 to promote safe and orderly sail and power boating by members and the public, the email added.

Donations will also be collected for the local food bank, with donation bins are located at CBYC, 12555 Crescent Rd., and Natalino’s pizza, 12211 Beecher St., in Crescent Beach. Bins are available until the event and will be collected and delivered to the food bank soon after.
