Six heroes will test your singing voice on Feb. 8 at Hollywood 3 Cinemas.
Theatre owners Rahim and Salima Manji are hosting a Big Hero 6 Sing-A-Long fundraiser for Variety – The Children’s Charity.
Families are invited to sing along with the animated Disney movie's Marvel Comics-based characters.
The theatre doors open at 9:30 a.m., and the movie starts at 10 a.m.
When the songs start up, the lyrics will pop up on the screen, and the entire audience is invited to sing their hearts out.
And heart is what this fundraiser is all about.
Variety – The Children’s Charity, an organization that enriches lives and builds a better future for children with special needs, will receive all proceeds from the sale of tickets ($6 in advance, $8 at the door gets you a movie ticket, popcorn and drink).
Heartly, Variety’s mascot, will also be there to put smiles on faces.
Door prizes and raffle tickets will add to the event and the spirit of giving.
Rahim and Salima Manji have a personal tie with Variety through their eight-year-old son, Kaden.
Born with a hole in his heart, Kaden was able to avoid surgery with specialized medication but sustained other medical issues. He was diagnosed with apraxia and his family was told Kaden may never learn to speak.
But his parents didn’t give up, and neither did Kaden.
With Variety helping to fund expensive speech therapy, and hard work and determination from Kaden’s team, he is now a chatty, social boy.
“I remember the moment Kaden spoke his first word at 2 ½ years – 'Mom' – and no matter how much time has gone by since that day, it still brings tears to my eyes," said Salima. We want other families to experience the same gifts. So now we’re helping Variety because the money has to come from somewhere.”
