The curtain's set to open on Light Sensitive, the Langley Players' spring production.
The comedy, a bitter-sweet love story, features the combined talents of a cast and crew from the Langley, Surrey and even North Vancouver.
The story follows two lost souls who meet in Hell's Kitchen. Tom is a blind, bitter former cabbie who meets Edna, a disabled woman who has isolated herself, and is hired to take care of Tom by Tom's only friend.
It's a mismatch worthy of the locale.
"The first time I read this play, I thought it was amazing," director Angela Bell said. "I laughed through much of it, and I was genuinely touched as well. Out of the darkness of what brings them together, come three characters who show us there is light at the end of every tunnel. I think there's something truly uplifting about that."
The play has something for everyone – from macho bravado, a battle of the sexes, moments of truth and tenderness, and a healthy dose of humour, Bell said.
"It's about real life, and real people."
Light Sensitive stars Surrey's Alaina Holland as Edna Miles, David J. Bodor as Tom Hanratty of North Van, Reginald Pilay of Surrey.
The production is lead by a team of Langley women, including Bell, producer Cyndy Dwyer, and stage manager Shelly Lewis.
Light Sensitive runs Thursdays to Sundays from April 17 to May 17 at the Langley Playhouse, 4307 200 Street in Brookswood.
