New trailer for Surrey-shot ‘Altered Carbon’ TV series

Sci-fi show to debut Feb. 2 on Netflix streaming service

SURREY — Scenes from Altered Carbon, a shot-in-Surrey TV series, are shown in a new trailer.

The sci-fi show, scheduled to debut Feb. 2 on Netflix, is filmed at Skydance Media’s 75,000-square-foot studio, which opened in September 2016 in the 88th-Avenue printing plant once operated by Pacific Newspaper Group.

Based on Richard Morgan’s 2002 cyberpunk novel and created by Laeta Kalogridis, the series is set 300 years in the future, “when human minds are digitized and downloaded from body to body,” according to a post at netflix.com.

“In the future, human minds are digitized and downloaded from body to body,” teases the company’s Youtube page. “Last night, the wealthiest man on Earth, Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy), was murdered. To investigate his death, he brings back ex-Envoy soldier Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman/Will Yun Lee) and in exchange, Bancroft offers Kovacs the chance to live again.”

The trailer, released Saturday (Dec. 9), has been viewed close to 500,000 times, as of Wednesday.
