Weekend readings of Radioland '48 feature "a cast of fun and talented actors," Nov. 1-3 at Newton Cultural Centre.

For Naked Stage Readers Theatre, Colleen McGoff Dean directs four actors in Kirsten Van Ritzen's one-act romp, advertised as an homage to screwball romantic comedies with a contemporary twist.

"It’s 1948 and a radio station is about to be closed forever," explains a post on nspsociety.com/upcoming-shows, where show tickets are sold.

"The employees of CHLO desperately try to save their studio with a marathon broadcast of a loopy serial, as romance blossoms between a pair of naïve ingenues and a couple of cynical careerists."

Show times are Friday and Saturday (Nov. 1-2) at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.

The readings feature Dann Wilhelm (as Bennet Burton), Rhiannon McKechnie (Ruby P. Maxwell), Jacob Brand (Lewis Hockley) and Loralei Teetzen (Melody Chambers).

Naked Stage shows don’t have movement, extensive lighting, sound systems or props, and the stage is bare except for the actors seated on stools and music stands for their scripts.

During the White Rock/South Surrey Arts Crawl earlier this month, the cast and director of Radioland '48 showcased their rehearsal process at both South Surrey Arts and Rec Centre and White Rock Community Centre. Photos are posted on Naked Stage's Facebook page.
