After the success of the inaugural Museum After Dark in 2015, the Surrey Museum is gearing up for a follow-up event with a fresh theme.

Scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17 from 6:30-9 p.m., the theme of this year’s 19-plus event is "odd jobs." After sipping wine and sampling appetizers with good company, attendees will take a rare tour of the museum’s collections vault and see an unusual hand-picked exhibit featuring artifacts of Surrey’s peculiar jobs past.

Keeping with the dark theme of the 2015 event, this year the museum has selected eerie ventriloquist dolls, funeral director fashions and more.

Museum After Dark is the only event of its kind at the Surrey Museum. The public rarely has an opportunity to enter the collections vault and the chance to see unusual exhibits like this are exclusive to this event.

It is a unique adult only experience including a leisurely tour of the museum galleries at night, as well as live theatrical performances by The Re-Enactors, reviving Surrey’s first doctor and early mayor.

“People are busy but they still want some culture and to relax in what little free time they have,” explained Kendra Fehr, Programs Specialist at the Surrey Museum. “This is a night out for them. They can socialize over wine and walk away having seen some very unusual items from our collection. It’s local culture.”

Fehr emphasized the event will change in theme each year, making it one that people can go to again and again, always seeing a different exhibit with the same dark vibe – albeit a different shade.

D’Vine Estate Winery will be on site, providing a merlot and a chardonnay. Additional glasses can be purchased for $6.

Tickets are $18 and must be purchased in advance at 604-592-6956 or tickets.surrey.ca
