Pat Chessell and his band are celebrating St. Paddy's Day early.

Feeling a ken to celebrate your Celtic heritage by kicking up your heels to some rowdy Irish music?

Local music fans, take heart. The six-month countdown to St. Paddy’s day begins this Saturday night (Sept. 19) at Dublin Crossing Pub, 101-18789 Fraser Highway, Surrey.

Join smoky-voiced troubadour Pat Chessell and his backup band, fiddler Andrea Taylor (formerly of the Clumsy Lovers), Nova Scotia drummer Rick Chapman, and Surrey bassist Nathan Powell, performing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The band – think Great Big Sea meets Johnny Cash – was featured at the Irish Pavilion during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, where they shared the stage with Jim Byrnes and Red Robinson.

They’ve also opened for such acts as The Brent Lee Band and The Town Pants.

The band is working on a new studio album.

A film crew will be on hand to film a few songs for a promotional DVD.
