Have a great idea for an art show that will connect with a White Rock audience?
The deadline is approaching for group applications for shows at the Landmark Pop-Uptown Gallery at Central Plaza in 2025.
Last day to submit applications to the City, which operates the gallery (at 15140 North Bluff Rd.), is Sept. 3.
The gallery's raison d'etre, as stated on the city's website, is that it "facilitates and inspires local artists and creative enterprise" in White Rock.
The gallery is made available free of charge to successful applicants for a one-month window (the city pays for all utilities during the show), and artists get to keep 100 per cent of the revenue they receive from sales, but the city has certain requirements for applications.
Only teams of artists (three at minimum) are eligible, and each group must provide short-term general liability insurance, and would be responsible for all sales. At least one member of the artists, or the curator of the show, must reside in White Rock or South Surrey.
Artists must also keep the space open for a minimum of four days a week, including Saturdays.
Applications are evaluated on a series of criteria, including how well-suited the gallery exhibit is to a temporary space and how participants propose to engage the White Rock uptown neighbourhood.
Overall concept and project feasibility are also taken into account, as well as the artistic merit (and/or professional record of achievement) of the participating artists; plus whether the proposal presents innovative ideas, has potential for creating excitement, and pushes artistic limits.
