The Surrey Museum is located at 17710-56A Avenue, Surrey; BC. Hours of operation are Tuesdays-Fridays, 9:30am to 5:30pm; Saturdays, 10:00am to 5:00pm, Sundays 12noon to 5:00pm. Kids Gallery at the Surrey Museum

On display to September 18

Kids get their hands on fun new interactives about water in this new gallery exploring sustainability from a kid’s point of view. Climb into the tree fort, play water-cycle pinball, explore the pipe wall, and more!

 

Community Treasures: Ukrainians in Canada: 125 years

On display to July 9

This touring exhibit from the University of Alberta’s Kule Folklore Centre explores the rich history of Ukrainian culture in Canada. 2016 marks the 125th anniversary of the first wave of Ukrainian immigrants to Canada, many of them settling in Surrey.

I Heart Mom

From the beginning of Mother’s Day in in 1908, cards and flowers have been presented to moms as a thank you for their love and dedication to their families. Create your own card or bookmark for Mom with pressed flowers.

Sheep to Shawl Competition

On your marks, get set–weave! Cheer on local teams as flying fingers spin and ply sheep’s wool into yarn, then weave a beautiful shawl, all in four hours. Watch real sheep being sheared, try weaving and spinning yourself, and make woolly crafts with your kids. Saturday, May 14, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., all ages, by donation

Bungee Cord Bracelet

Get creative with colourful bungee cords, cool charms and decorative cords to make yourself a one-of-a-kind wrist wrap: 2 sessions $30 (8-12yrs)  Tuesday, May 3, 4-6 p.m.

 

Pro-D Camp: Dinosaur Day

From stompers and chompers to those that soar or roar, kids explore the world of dinosaurs through crafts, games and activities.

1 session $28 (5-8yrs), Friday, May 6 from 9: a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Mother’s Day Silk Scarf

Give something special this Mother’s Day – a one-of-a-kind silk scarf you dyed yourself using creative techniques and special markers. 1 session $15 (7-12yrs), Saturday, May 7, 1-3 p.m.

 

Paper Doll Tea Party

Children bring their moms for a special Mother’s Day tea. Create your own paper dolls and clothing then enjoy tea and treats. Moms are free. 1 session $11 (5-8yrs), Saturday, May 7 from 1:30-3 p.m.

 

Craft It With Wool

Small hands master new skills as kids try weaving and felting, find out where cloth comes from, and make a woolly sheep to take home. 1 session $11.50 (3-5yrs), Wednesday, May 11, from 10:30 a.m.-12noon

Steeped in History: the Art and Taste of Tea

Tea is hot - except when iced! Whether white, green, or black, balled, beaten or infused, tea has been intertwining cultures for centuries. Camellia sinensis has influenced health and science, art and society. Get a taste for this ancient plant and its current trendiness as you explore teatoxing to teatotaling. On display April 30–June 19, open Friday, Saturday, Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., All ages, by donation.

Heritage Family Day: Earth Day

If there were no recycling depots, how did pioneers practice the Three Rs? Figure out how the Stewarts reduced, reused and recycled around the farm through crafts, activities and a specialty tour. Saturday, April 23, 12noon-4 p.m. All ages, Free

Sustainable Gardening

Find out how to garden in harmony with nature. Learn to compost, get tips on companion planting, and take home labour-saving techniques to reduce watering and weeding. 1 session, $15 (16yrs+), Saturday, April 16, 9:30am-12noon

Pro-D Day Camp: Spring Fun

Leave phones and devices at home and celebrate old-fashioned fun around the Farm! Craft a bonnet or top hat, taste hand-churned ice cream and learn fun Victorian games. 1 session $28 (6-11yrs), Friday, May 6, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Mother’s Day Tea

Treat mum like the queen she is with tea at the Farm. Nibble cucumber sandwiches, indulge in sweets and scones baked in the wood stove, and make a card for Mom. 1 session $15 (6yrs+), Saturday, May 7, from 12noon to 1 p.m. OR 2-3 p.m.  1 session $15 (6yrs+) Sunday, May 8, from 12noon to 1 p.m. OR from 2-3 p.m.

Seed Saving 101

Join our expert to learn about the rare heirloom seeds we grow, then get techniques and hands-on practice on how to pick, dry, store and save them to plant next year. 1 session Free (16yrs+), Saturday, May 14, from 11 a.m. to noon.
