Surrey Christian School hosting open houses for potential students

Events on Jan. 15 and 17 give prospective students ‘glimpse’ into Surrey independent school

Open houses for Surrey Christian School will give prospective students “a glimpse into what it might look like” to attend the independent school.

Surrey Christian School will be hosting open houses, with morning and evening sessions on Jan. 15 and Jan. 17.

The Jan. 15 morning sessions, from 10 a.m. to noon, will be at both the Fleetwood Campus (8888 162nd St.) and the Secondary Campus (15353 92nd Ave.). The evening sessions, from 6 to 8 p.m., will also be at both campuses.

Fleetwood campus will host sessions for kindergarten to Grade 7. The Secondary campus will host sessions for grades 8 to 12.

Both Jan. 17 sessions will be at the Cloverdale Campus ( 5950 179th St.). The morning session will run from 10 a.m. to noon, and the evening session will run from 6-8 p.m. The sessions will be for pre-kindergarten to Grade 7.

The school will be accepting applications for September 2019.

Clara Atagi, director of admissions with the school, said the point of the open houses is to “share the mission and vision” of Surrey Christian School.

She said sometimes an independent school can be seen “a little bit different,” but the open houses allow prospective students to experience the school, find out which electives are available and meet school staff.

“Sometimes when you’re a smaller school, people think there are not as many opportunities,” said Atagi, adding there are opportunities for students to go sailing and even join a motor club or a rock band.

Atagi said the school helps to prepare secondary students for university, as well as providing leadership and innovative opportunities for younger-level students.

For more information on the open houses, call Atagi at 604-498-3233 or email catagi@surreychristian.com.
