Speedway volunteers call out for Fort Mac donations

Agassiz Speedway volunteers are putting the call out for donations to help Fort McMurray relief efforts

Cloverdale’s Leslie McKellar and other Agassiz Speedway volunteers are putting the call out for donations to help Fort McMurray relief efforts.

Through a Facebook group, Supporting the Fort McMurray Evacuees, they’re organizing a transport. On Sunday, a small convoy hauling race car trailers filled with donations collected in the Fraser Valley will leave Abbotsford for Alberta. Donations will be taken to the Edmonton area, where they can reach front-line agencies helping the evacuees.

With nearly 90,000 residents fleeing their homes more than a week ago with little advance preparation, basic items are urgently needed:

Maternity clothes are in high demand, says McKellar, who has been tracking down empty boxes to transport the items.

Other items include: new towels and facecloths, socks, underwear, bras, new shoes,  sandals, and slippers, and clothing for all ages – from newborns to senior citizens.

Personal care items are also needed, such as toiletries, pads, tampons, diapers, shampoo/conditioner, new brushes and combs, hair elastics, new pillows and pillow cases, new blankets, sheets, pajamas, toys and games, colouring books and crayons.
