The BC SPCA Surrey Open House and Adoption Fair takes place Aug. 14.

What’s better than a fair on a hot summer day? A fair featuring kittens and cats.

Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the fun – and potentially, find a new furry family member – at the BC SPCA Surrey Open House and Adoption Fair, supported by PetSmart Charities of Canada, Aug. 14 from 1-4 p.m.

“Our Surrey Education and Adoption Centre is a unique facility in a rural setting that features a horse barn and chicken coop, along with emergency housing for homeless cats and small animals, educational space for animal-related community programs and the operations centre for our Lower Mainland animal protection officers who rescue animals from neglect and abuse,” said Jane Talbot, BC SPCA director of regional operations. “If you’re looking to find a new, furry friend, this event is a great opportunity to meet the cats and kittens in our care – it is kitten season, so there’s plenty of frisky felines looking for forever homes.”

In addition to the animals available for adoption, there will be barn tours and fun activities for youngsters, including face-painting and animal-themed crafts, as well as live music, refreshments, a barbecue featuring SPCA Certified and vegetarian products and a cake-cutting.

“It’ll be a lot of fun. Come and enjoy a fair with a country feel, and help us find much-needed homes for the furry creatures in our care,” Talbot said. “We hope we see you there.”

The BC SPCA’s adoption process involves filling out an application, to ensure the best match for each animal and adopter is made.

If you would like your application to be pre-screened prior to the event, fill out an online application – found at spca.bc.ca/adopt under the "Adoption Information" tab – and email it to surreyadopt@spca.bc.ca
