Saturday’s Surrey Slam Jam to bring youth basketball, dance tourneys to Guildford

Free admission at the annual event, also featuring local jazz musicians

Another Surrey Slam Jam event will bring basketball, dance, art and culture to Guildford Recreation Centre this coming Saturday, April 6.

Admission is free at the day-long youth festival, which gets going at noon and ends at 8 p.m.

Youth basketball and dance tournaments are part of the fun, along music, prizes, special guest appearances and more at 15105 105 Ave., Surrey.

“Whether you’re a budding artist, a dance enthusiast, or a music lover, the Surrey Slam Jam has something for everyone.”

The five-on-five (or 5v5) basketball tournament welcomes registration for teams and individuals, maximum eight players per roster in junior, seniors and ladies divisions.

The dance competition involves 2v2 All Styles and 2v2 Break Battle. Judges include world-renowned dancers Humuza and B-girl Emma. Dancers can register as individuals if they don’t have a partner.

Local jazz musicians will perform, and any youth from Surrey can be highlighted during the 5 p.m. jam session. The band schedule starts at 12:30 p.m. with Ava McDonough Quartet, followed by Jayden Bayer Trio, Streetlights, a half-time show, jam session, David Cross Quartet and Just the Six of Us.
