The Be a Santa to a Senior program is back this holiday season, aiming to brighten the spirits of people in White Rock and Surrey.
The program, now in its ninth year, provides local seniors – particularly those in long-term care homes – with companionship and gifts during the holidays.
The annual campaign is run by Home Instead Senior Care. Until Dec. 8, Be a Santa to a Senior trees can be found at participating Nature’s Fare and Vancity locations, and those wishing to get involved can fulfil a gift request for a local senior, as displayed on a tree ornament.
There’s no need to wrap the gift – simply buy a requested gift and return it to Vancity or Natures’ Fare with the ornament attached. Volunteers will wrap and deliver the presents in time for the holidays.
The program also runs in Langley, Tsawwassen and Ladner.
“The Be a Santa to a Senior program is all about including seniors in the joy of the holiday season,” said Wes Colby, owner of the White Rock Home Instead Senior Care office, in a news release.
“A simple gift shows them they are a loved and vital member of our community.”
