SURREY — With the sun shining and a crisp autumn air falling over Surrey, people flocked down to Surrey Civic Plaza for the first day of Rogers Hometown Hockey.

The first day of the weekend-long event featured live music, hockey trivia, and autograph signing from some former Vancouver Canucks.

Here are some photos floating around social media of the day’s activities.

Day two of Rogers Hometown Hockey kicks off at noon today. The Hockey Night in Canada Punjabi Edition crew will be down there signing autographs along with former Canucks alumni Kirk McLean and Dave Babych.

Also, Surrey native Owen Hopkins will be featured on the Hometown Hockey broadcast before the matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Hopkins was previously featured on Hockey Night in Canada last year after the Canucks paid him and his Cloverdale H4 Wildcats hockey team a surprise visit earlier this year in January.

Hopkins was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in Oct. 2016 but made an incredible recovery to step back onto the ice this fall.

If you plan on watching from home today, Hometown Hockey will have features on Surrey natives Jujhar Khaira and Brenden Dillon as part of their broadcast.
