A hockey triple-header in North Delta Saturday aims to raise funds to help in the fight against cancer.
The North Delta Minor Hockey Association is hosting its second annual NDMHA Fights Cancer Night at Sungod Arena Feb. 8.
The focus of the event is to raise awareness, education and funds to aid cancer research and patient care. Admission is by donation (suggested minimum $5), with all proceeds donated to the BC Cancer Foundation.
“Cancer touches all of us in some way — whether through family, friends or neighbours. It’s a disease that doesn’t discriminate,” the association said in an email to members. “At NDMHA, we believe in the vital work being done by the BC Cancer Foundation, and we are hopeful that one day, their efforts will help eliminate cancer or make living with it more manageable.”
“We are confident that our North Delta community will come together to make this event a memorable success.”
The event features three back-to-back Sun Devil games, starting with the U13 A2 squad at 3:45 p.m. A pair of “Delta Cup” games will follow: U15 C1 Sun Devils versus U15 C2 Sun Devils at 5:45 p.m., and U18 C1 Sun Devils versus U18 C2 Sun Devils at 7:45 p.m.
There will also be a silent auction, a concession benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation (pizza at $3 a slice; Gatorade for $3; pop/juice $2; water $1; popcorn, chocolate bars and candy bags each for $2, bags of chips for $1, and a lollipop pull for $1), “NDMHA Fights Cancer” apparel and merchandise for sale, and more surprises.
As well, each game will kick off with award-winning Canadian country music star Aaron Pritchett singing the national anthem.
This year, NDMHA has set a fundraising goal of $5,000 through the event. Links to donate and preview “NDMHA Fights Cancer” hoodies (online orders are now closed but a limited number will be available for sale at the event) can be found at ndhockey.com/cancer.
