The equivalent of nearly five burritos.

It’s almost May 5, and for local burrito lovers that can only mean one thing: it’s nearly time to belly up to the table at Taco Del Mar.

The Clayton Crossing burrito bar is once again hosting its annual Cinco de Mondo Burrito Contest.

The hulking burrito challenge involves chowing down on The Cinco De Mondo Burrito.

It’s a massive, five-pound burrito rolled with four tortillas and stuffed with rice, beans, ground beef, and cheese – the equivalent of four-and-a-half “Mondo” burritos.

Finish it off in half an hour or less, and you eat for free, in addition to claiming well-deserved bragging rights.

Owner Jordan West also organized a similar challenge last September –  and last year during Cinco de Mayo, a festive celebration commemorating a May 5 Mexican militia victory during the Franco-Mexican war.

There will be two opportunities to take the challenge. The first is May 5 and the second is May 26. Participants can take the challenge between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. both days. Anyone who wins the challenge will also receive a $20 gift certificate to the fast food outlet.
