Make a cultural connection at Surrey Museum open house

Mingle with your neighbours and get to know your new city Thursday at the Surrey Museum.

Mingle with your neighbours and get to know your new city at an upcoming event at the Surrey Museum.

The Cultural Connections Open House, Thursday Nov. 15 from 2 to 3:30 p.m., is an afternoon of guided tours of the museum’s exhibit galleries, films about Surrey’s heritage and culture, along with tea and refreshments.

At 2:45 p.m., there will be a presentation on the Settlement and Integration program for Immigrants by Options Community Services.

With 40 per cent of Surrey’s population made up of immigrants, there’s a strong need in the community for organizations to welcome newcomers and help them feel comfortable in their new surroundings. The open house is a chance for the city’s new residents to discover and ask questions about Surrey’s past, and learn about what organizations like Options have to offer in the way of services, training and other opportunities.

Options is one of the agencies providing settlement and integration services to new immigrants, says training coordinator Amy Jeon.

The agency partners with SUCCESS, PICS, DIVERcity, the City of Surrey and Surrey Libraries.

The Surrey Museum is located at 17710 56A Avenue, Surrey. It’s open Tuesdays to Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 pm. and it’s closed Sundays, Mondays and statutory holidays.
