From a video released by KPU April 1 claiming to announce a new partnership between campus security and its farrier program in Cloverdale.

There's been a little April foolin' at Kwantlen Polytechnic University this morning, where a major announcement claimed its farrier horses are up for a career change.

Today's announcement said four of the horses that served in KPU's unique farrier program will try their hooves at a different job, serving as aides for security teams at all four campuses.

As students break for classes this summer, the horses they learn to shoe typically return to farms and owners throughout the region, however these four horses were part of a new partnership between campus security and the farrier program.

The release was accompanied by a short video, which offered clues that the announcement was actually an April Fools' Day joke.

For instance, the news scroll at the bottom of the screen offered such outrageous headlines as "Science and hort students develop plant that proofreads assignments" and "KPP student has groundbreaking discovery of gravity."

KPU wasn't the only public institution in Surrey having fun today. The Surrey Museum (@ASurreyMuseum) sent out a tweet this morning showing a vintage 'Victor' brand rodent trap along with a caption: 'Rat trap belonging to Henry McRae of Cloverdale. Rat traps were outlawed in the 1930s, when Surrey declared rats an endangered species. This trap had Henry thrown in jail for three weeks when it was discovered.'

"Things sure do change, don't they?" read the tweet.
