The enthusiastic teens pictured at right are a fraction of the Clayton Heights Secondary students who will be out canvassing for non-perishable food items on Halloween, so have your donations ready.
As many as 100 students are expected to take part in Halloween For Hunger, heading out in the Clayton neighbourhood and and to homes as far south as Highway 10 between 3 and 6 p.m. next Wednesday.
The students will be distributing donation bags throughout Clayton and Cloverdale in preparation for the campaign.
Halloween for Hunger traditionally kicks off the school’s Christmas food drive.
In 2011, students collected more than 3,000 items. They’re hoping to double that this year.
Halloween for Hunger is spearheaded by the school’s Project Equal club, a student-led initiative to raise money for aid projects helping communities in developing countries and closer to home in the city of Surrey.
This Saturday, about 40 students were headed to a fundraiser for the Surrey Urban Mission.
Clayton Heights Secondary is one of the largest supporters of the Cloverdale Christmas Hamper program, an annual holiday food drive that supports needy families in the Cloverdale area.
The Project Equal club is thought to be the school’s largest, with 270 members from Grades 8 to 12.
