A free family movie, charity hot dog sales, and a food drive for the Surrey Food bank are among the highlights set for a mini children’s festival at Brick Yard Station this weekend.

Merchants of the shopping plaza at 17433-17475 Highway 10 joined forces with the Cloverdale BIA to put on a new event aimed at youngsters Saturday.

He says Clancy’s Meat Co. owner Derek Tremblay had been planning for years to have an outdoor movie at the plaza, and it didn’t take much to convince other Brickyard tenants such as CIBC, Envision Financial and Staples to get involved this time around.

The main attraction is the movie, Inside Out, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the mall parking lot. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets.

The 2015 animated gem is about a young girl named Riley who is uprooted to a new city, where she and her emotions (Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness, starring the voices of Amy Poehler, Bill Hader and Lewis Black and others) struggle to adjust to a new life, house, and school.

The Clovderdale Children’s Festival runs from 3:30-7:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17. There will be bouncy castles, face painting, colouring contests, and exhibits such as exotic animals from Urban Safari Rescue Society.

Clancy’s Meat Co. will be on hand selling hotdogs for charity.

Event organizers are also collecting food donations through Envision Financial’s The Full Cupboard, which will pass the proceeds to the Surrey Food bank.

Sample products from Starbucks, Into Chocolate, and The Chopped Leaf, and help support Staples’ Stuff the Bus campaign, which puts together backpacks filled with school supplies for children at George Greenaway Elementary School.

Regional Recycling will be on hand promoting its Back to School campaign encouraging environmental stewardship.

“This new family event is open to the public and for the most part has no costs attached to it,” Orazietti said. “Mark your calendars and join them to have some fun and help people in Cloverdale who need it.”
