The intriguing sport of canine freestyle will be showcased this Saturday afternoon at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, where local canine club Paws 2 Dance presents Prancing Paws.
Billed as an afternoon of canine musical freestyle and dressage, Prancing Paws features entries from across the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and Washington State. Canine freestyle features choreographed routines involving a dog and handler, costumes and music.
Spectators can watch the participants compete from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at the Alice McKay Building. Admission is by donation.
The event is a fundraiser for Paws 2 Dance, a local club based in Cloverdale. Any proceeds from the event will go towards the club's upcoming play, Shadows of Eternity, presented Nov. 3 and 4 at the Bell Centre for the Performing Arts.
The group's 2010 performance raised $6,000 for charity, and was a near sell-out.
Enthusiasts say the sport allows them to bond more closely with their dogs, as well as keep them mentally and physically stimulated. The club holds demonstrations, competitions and fun days.
They get another chance to strut their stuff at the Cloverdale Rodeo (times to be announced).
