Crowds cheer beds, bikes and wheels

Another bed pan for Team Turkey at the 35th annual Cloverdale Bed Races.

Pucker up, Vault.

For the third year running, Turkey’s Party Makers has won the Cloverdale Bed Races, besting rival Vault Restaurant in the hotly-contested men’s division, and claiming the coveted bedpan trophy. The win earns Rob ‘Turkey’ Kielesinski a kiss on the cheek from Vault owner Aron Hotell, along with bragging rights.

Some 28 teams in three categories took part in the 35th annual races, held May 17. Lord Tweedsmuir Girls Soccer won the ladies’ division, Pacific Community Church claimed the hospitality division, and Fraser Downs was crowned best dressed.

Earlier, lots of kids turned out for the Decorated Bike Parade. Pirates, princesses, and Spidey themes were popular.

But the best surprise, hands down, were the amazing stunts by competitors from the World Round-up Skateboard championships, who rolled by for a demonstration before heading off to the Cloverdale Fairgrounds. (Afterwards, they were swarmed by autograph-seekers.)
