Cloverdale hamper appeal deadline nears

Local businesses have been generous with volunteers and donations but more cash donations are urgently needed to meet this year's need.

Volunteers with the Cloverdale Christmas Hamper Program this Friday will start picking up the first of more than 200 donation boxes deployed throughout the community.

Between Dec. 7 and 10, the donations of non-perishable food items, gifts and cash will be collected and brought to the warehouse at Pacific Community Church, where an army of volunteers will assemble food hampers in time for pick up day, Dec. 15.

Local businesses have really stepped up to the plate this year by volunteering time, donating food or providing monetary gifts for the non-denominational program, says Kevin Lunder, program lead along with his wife Trish.

But financial donations from the community are down this year, Kevin said, issuing an appeal for cash donations as the campaign enters its final week.

The Lunders thank the community for supporting the program, and says no donation is too big or small, because they all add up, and are sincerely appreciated by the beneficiaries.

Monetary donations (payable by cheque) can be made to Pacific Community Church at 5337 180 St, Surrey, B.C., V3S 4K5 (write Hamper Program in the memo line). Tax receipts will be issued.
