Spring Break Family Drop-in

Steam into the Surrey Museum Station for train-themed family fun. Discover props and handle artifacts, play with train toys, toot our train whistle and create railway crafts. To Friday, March 28. ALS Fundraiser

The Accounting Society of Kwantlen hosts a burger and brew fundraiser at The Henry Public House in Cloverdale on Thursday, March 27. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door. The event starts at 6 p.m. Proceeds to support ALS patient services. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a rapidly-progressive, neuromuscular disease. It can strike anyone at any time, regardless of age, gender or ethnic origin.

 

Ukrainian Soul Food

Perogies, cabbage rolls and borscht will be available Friday, March 28 at a fundraiser from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, 13512 108 Avenue, Surrey. Eat-in, take away or ready for your freezer. For information, call 604-560-0152 or 604-581-0313.

 

Audition Call

Bard in the Valley is holding auditions March 30 and 31 to cast its summer 2014 production of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, directed by Darcy J. Knopp. Hear an outline of the production, performance expectations and rehearsal commitments starting at 1 p.m. March 30 and at 7:30 p.m. March 31 at Douglas Park Recreation Centre. Actors will be asked to do a cold read from the script. Some will be asked to read for specific roles. Bring a printed hardcopy headshot and resume to turn in with the audition form (provided). Old Time Dance

Beds and Bedding Fundraiser for St. Elizabeth Orphanage

Saturday, April 5 at the Clova Cinema, 10:30 a.m. Tickets $5. Door prizes prior to the show. Bring your own container and get popcorn and pop for $2.50. Fund raised will go to purchases mattresses and blankets for the children of St. Elizabeth Children's Home in Kisumu, Kenya. Three-quarters of the children are currently battling pneumonia, and and nine have been hospitalized. Parent Support Group for Gifted/talented

This parent support group provides an opportunity for parents of gifted children to learn more about giftedness, discuss challenges and share strategies for supporting gifted children. Some children are unusually intense and sensitive. They are rapid, curious, learners but may be bored, disruptive or underachieve. Their development, intellectual and emotional is uneven. They set very high expectations resulting in failure or upset. Sometimes they have a learning disability in addition to being gifted. The Fraser Health Crisis Line is recruiting volunteers to provide assistance to people in the region who are experiencing emotional distress. No previous experience is needed as extensive training and ongoing support is provided. Speed Watch volunteers needed

Surrey crime Prevention Society is looking for volunteers to support the Speed Watch Program. Volunteers work with a team, tracking vehicles driving at excessive speeds in playgrounds, school zones and high-risk crash sites, and gain valuable experience. The Cloverdale Lions Club is looking for new members. Singers wanted

Do you like to sing? if so, come and join the Silvertone Singers.  It is a Seniors Community Choir and we practice on Thursdays at 1 p.m. at the Cloverdale Rec Centre at 62 Avenue  and 176 Street. We sing a large variety of music and entertain at senior care homes and assisted living homes. Even though we sing our music in parts, we do not hold auditions. Everyone is welcome. B.C. Vintage Truck Museum – Help wanted!

The Surrey Heritage Society is looking for volunteers to help out with the new BC Vintage Truck Museum (6022 176 Street) located on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds. Our members are looking to have the museum open to the general public on Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. every week through the year. We will teach you about the history of trucking in B.C. and about the trucks on display in the collection.
