35th annual Whonnock Weavers and Spinners Guild Fall Open House and Sale

The Whonnock Weavers and Spinners Guild are holding their annual event Sunday, Nov. 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Whonnock Lake Centre in Maple Ridge. Featuring quality handwoven, knitted, felted and handspun articles for sale, including clothing, linens, baskets, accessories, holiday decorations and home decor items, along with guest artists with ironwork, pottery, wood turning, jewelry and glass. WinterSong: A Celebration of the Season

The choir presents afternoon performances of Wintersong: a Celebration of the Season. Saturday, Nov. 28 at United Churches of Langley (Sharon United), located 21562 Old Yale Road, Langley, followed by Sunday, Nov. 29 at St. Dunstan’s Anglican Church, 3025 64 Street in Aldergrove. FAMILY HISTORY SHOW & TELL

10th annual Surrey Santa Parade

Sunday, Dec. 6 starting at 5 p.m. Two parades in one! This is Surrey’s largest evening Santa Parade. Part one is parade of lighted trucks and big rigs, followed by a traditional community parade, from horse-drawn carriages and vintage vehicles, to dance groups, clubs, mascots and more. The parade supports two charities – the Surrey Food Bank and Surrey Christmas Bureau. Spectators are asked to bring along a donation. People will be collecting items and cash donations all along the parade route. There’s an entertainment zone at Hawthorne Square (176 Street and 57A Ave.) with vendors. The parade starts at the corner of 176A Street and 60 Avenue, heading east to 177B Street, then south to 58 Avenue, and west to 176 Street, ending at Highway 10. Historic Stewart Farm Christmas Open House

Relieve modern day Christmas stress and harken back to pioneer days at the Christmas open house, Saturday, Dec. 12 from noon to 4 p.m. at Stewart Farm, 13723 Crescent Road, South Surrey. Free, all ages. Explore the grounds and warm farmhouse, check out the pioneer decor and vintage decorations, listen to classic carols, sample woodstove baked cookies, figgy pudding and hot apple cider, make popcorn strings and pomanders, create seasonal crafts in Stewart Hall. Country carols

Christmas cheer will be celebrated at Hazelmere United Church next month at a sing-along holiday event. Carols in the Country is set to take place Dec. 13 at the church, located at 1614 184 Street, with performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $10 and children are free. 18th annual Winter Ice Palace

The Cloverdale Arena, 6090 176 Street, will be transformed into the Winter Ice Palace again, over winter break. Come and join in the fun. This is a very popular event that the whole family can enjoy. Admission is $4:50, but skate and helmet rentals are additional. Open Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Call 604-502-6410. Surrey Firefighters Tree Chip

Surrey Firefighters present a tree chip Saturday, Jan. 6, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in two locations: Surrey Fire Hall 8 (Cloverdale) at 1752 57 Ave., and at Newton Athletic Park, 7395 128 Street. All proceeds go to the Surrey Firefighters Charitable Foundation; 100 per cent of all money is used for programs within the City of Surrey.

The Surrey Heritage Society is looking for volunteers to help out with the new BC Vintage Truck Museum (6022 176 Street) located on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds. The museum is open to the general public on Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. every week through the year. We will teach you about the history of trucking in B.C. and about the trucks on display in the collection.
