Surrey Historical Society Meeting

The Surrey Historical Society meets Nov. 9 at 10 a.m., in the downstairs meeting room of the Surrey Archives building, 17671 56 Avenue. Featuring "In Their Own Words," a presentation on oral histories and photos by Ryan Gallagher from the Surrey Archives. For information, call 604-576-9734.

 

Buried in books

White Rock Rotary's book warehouse is bursting at the seams with great reading materials in all genres: novels, biography, arts, non-fiction, romance, religion, self-help, women's issues, children's and youth lit. To liquidate our surplus, it's our final sale at Rotary Field House at Soft Ball City in South Surrey (148 Street between 20 and 24 Avenues.) Fall bazaar

The Royal Canadian Legion Cloverdale Branch 6 Ladies Auxiliary Invite you to attend and support a worthwhile cause. Find your early Christmas presents and enjoy a lunch for $5. B.C. Vintage Truck Museum – Help wanted!

The Surrey Heritage Society is looking for volunteers to help out with the new BC Vintage Truck Museum (6022 176 Street) located on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds. Our members are looking to have the museum open to the general public on Saturday's from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. every week through the year. We will

Cloverdale Lions Club

The Cloverdale Lions Club is looking for new members. Past and ongoing projects include sponsoring three senior citizen buildings, Cloverdale Minor Baseball, Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School bursaries, Timmy's telethon, the Surrey Memorial Hospital Children's Cancer Clinic and more. We also help out at the Blueberry Festival Cloverdale Rodeo, Halloween Costume Parade and the Christmas parade. Meetings are the second Thursday of the month. Cloverdale Senior’s Stamp Club

Singers wanted

Do you like to sing? if so, come and join the Silvertone Singers.  It is a Seniors Community Choir and we practice on Thursdays at 1 p.m. at the Cloverdale Rec Centre at 62 Avenue  and 176 Street. We sing a large variety of music and entertain at senior care homes and assisted living homes. Even though we sing our music in parts, we do not hold auditions. Everyone is welcome. Why not join the South Surrey Garden Club? Visitors welcome; $3 drop in fee credited to annual membership of $20. The Oneness Gogos of White Rock/South Surrey group is working under the auspices of the Stephen Lewis Foundation to support African grandmothers raising children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. The Cloverdale Garden Club meets the second Thursday of the month, September to June, at Clayton Community Hall, 18513 70 Avenue. Meetings run from 7 to 9 p.m. In addition to monthly speakers, we have a monthly raffle, yearly bus trip and a plant sale in May. Drop in fee $3. Yearly memberships $20 per person or $30 per family. As seniors, entertaining our community and giving back is part of what we do.  We need some new blood in the group and Cloverdale is our base of operations. Our oldest member is 90 and trying for 100.
