An Evening of the Arts at Darts
Enjoy an evening of the arts at world-class Darts Hill Garden (1633 170 Street), Saturday, June 20, from 4-8 p.m. This event features outstanding local artists, a silent auction of artist-painted Adirondack chairs, the vibrant sounds of Rossi on Spanish guitar and steel drums, Guides, and Master Gardeners. Enjoy a beverage while chatting with artists and strolling among the rare and unusual plants of Darts Hill. Beverages and snacks available for sale. Urban Safari Rescue Society
The next session of the unique Junior Zoo Keeping course for teens begins Saturday, June 27 (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.) for eight weeks. If you have a teen curious about animals this course will keep your teen amazed and learning through most of the summer. They will learn about caring for animals in captivity, how to train animals, biology of animals, careers working with animals and more in a fun atmosphere. Better at Home
The Surrey and White Rock Better at Home programs have integrated to a central intake phone line (604-536-9348) to accommodate the expansion of the program into more communities while simplifying the process. The Surrey/White Rock Better at Home program is now providing services to seniors in the communities of Cloverdale, Guildford, Fleetwood, Newton, South Surrey, Whalley, and White Rock.
The Better at Home program continues to provide seniors with non-medical support services such as home and yard maintenance, housekeeping, grocery shopping, transportation, friendly visiting, and social programs that will allow them to remain in their own homes longer.
The Government of British Columbia funds the program, United Way of the Lower Mainland manages it, and the non-profit organization that provides the Better at Home program in Cloverdale is Seniors Come Share Society. The fees of the services are on a sliding scale based on income and some services may be free for those seniors that qualify. Speed Watch volunteers needed
Surrey crime Prevention Society is looking for volunteers to support the Speed Watch Program. Volunteers work with a team, tracking vehicles driving at excessive speeds in playgrounds, school zones and high-risk crash sites, and gain valuable experience.
