Surrey residents are invited to celebrate National Tree Day Saturday at a planting party at Clayton Park.
Residents will plant 500 trees and shrubs, launching a month-long series of free programs and events celebrating nature in Surrey.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Clayton Park, 18513 70 Avenue. It's home to Clayton Hall, tennis and lawn bowling courts, along with a playground, fields and a nature trail that leads through a grove of Douglas fir trees.
The National Tree Day planting party is an annual event hosted by the City of Surrey. Along with planting native trees and shrubs, activities include live music, face painting, refreshments and bucket rides with arborists.
