A pub night fundraiser in support of John Lowe’s Big Battlefield Ride is planned for May 15 at Dublin Crossing Irish Pub.

Lowe, profiled in the Reporter last month (“A Soldier’s Road Home,” April 4), is taking part in the Big Battlefield Ride through Western Europe at the end of May in support of Wounded Warriors, an organization that helps Canadian Forces members and reservists who have been injured or wounded in their service, with a focus on mental health.

“Hey everyone, thanks for all the kind words and support the last few weeks,” Lowe says, adding he hopes supporters will make it out to the fundraiser – it’s the big one.

As the only rider from B.C., Lowe and five Canadian comrades will join more than 300 British, American, and European combat veterans on a ride across France and England May 27 to June 2, touring significant First and Second World War battlefields.

The annual ride is helping create outreach and raise awareness about the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and a range of other Operational Stress Injuries.

Lowe, who served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry’s First Battalion in Afghanistan as part of a reconstruction task force, needs to raise $4,000 to help pay for his travel costs – and to provide funds to Wounded Warriors.

The pub night fundraiser includes a silent auction, 50/50 draws and raffles. Tickets are $20.

Call Lowe for tickets at 604-996-9031 or email jclowe@gmail.com. The pub is located at 101-18789 Fraser Highway.
