Visitors to the Surrey Museum will discover all things Celtic – music, dancing, history and more – at the Celtic Fest on Saturday, March 16 from 1-4 p.m.

Explore the culture with Celtic-inspired games and take-home crafts such as Loch Ness monster puppets and Celtic Knot decorating.

Visit with the Westcoast Calligraphic Society, which will demonstrate Celtic calligraphy and lettering visitors’ names on souvenir bookmarks.

Children who come dressed in green will be entered into a draw for a special St. Patrick’s Day prize.

At 2 p.m., the Museum’s lobby will transform into a lively Irish céilí, a traditional celebration of music and dance.

The White Rock Scottish Country Dancing Club will perform first, then at 2:30 p.m. the young dancers from Steel School of Dance will entertain visitors with lively jigs.

At 3 p.m. Gerry Bradley and Sasha Pawliuk of the Irish band Small Potatoes will perform enchanting fiddle and whistle tunes.

Community groups with Celtic connections will share Celtic culture, heritage and achievements with museum visitors.

Participating organizations include the Vancouver Welsh Society, Sons of Scotland Benevolent Association, 78th Fraser Highlanders, Irish Heritage Society of Canada, Ireland Canada Monument Society and Scoil Ghaeilge Vancouver (Irish School Vancouver).

Celtic Fest is part of the Museum’s new Discovery Saturdays series of drop-in afternoon family programs held on the third Saturday of each month in 2013.

The Surrey Museum is located at 17710 56A Ave.

Admission is sponsored by the Friends of the Surrey Museum.
