Aldergrove Scout receives national award

An Aldergrove Scout is the only Scout in the Langley-Adergrove area to receive a Chief Scouts Award this year.

Monica Patterson of the 2nd Aldergrove Scouts was presented with the award for her leadership and volunteer work.

The award has been presented by the Governor-General of Canada since 1973. It was presented to Patterson on behalf of the Governor-General by the Honourable Mr. Justice Ken Ball (Supreme Court Judge) and RCMP Honour Guard, Constable James Wertz.

Monica, 14, has been involved with the 2nd Aldergrove Scouts for the past 10 years, having joined at age four as a Beaver.

She is the Youth Group Commissioner, a role in which she speaks on behalf of the youths to the adult administrators, and to the leader of her troop, Ian Dixon.

Monica, who is in grade 9 at Aldergrove Secondary school, is also a league bowler, sings with her choir at school, and is a dancer at the Kick It Up a Notch dance academy in Aldergrove.
