Kwantlen University’s “Stuff the Bus” campaign kicked off with a food drive – literally – for a local cause that helps needy Cloverdale residents each December.

Kwantlen employee and Cloverdale resident Tally Wade, coordinator of the public safety communications program, is also on the university’s United Way committee.

The initiative has been a resounding success, especially at the Cloverdale campus, where classes compete against each other for a pizza lunch donated by the Dean’s office, Wade says.

Kwantlen introduced a new shuttle bus service between campuses this year. To draw attention to this – and to the annual United Way employee drive, the university launched its Stuff the Bus Campaign.

The goal is to load the bus with non-perishable food and hygiene items.

After reading a recent article in The Reporter, organizers decided to hold a one-day food drive for the Cloverdale Christmas Hamper program, a non-denominational, volunteer-driven Yuletide program that assists local families and individuals in need.

On Nov. 4, Kwantlen shuttled the bus by each of its four campuses – Cloverdale, Langley, Richmond and Surrey – picking up food donations.

The donations were then dropped off at Pacific Community Church, nerve centre of the hamper assembly line.
