A final salute

It was a sight to behold, even on Cloverdale’s busy 176 Street bypass.

On a recent Friday afternoon, a convoy of trucks slowly rolled north, bringing traffic to a brief halt as they made their way through the 60 Ave. intersection, horns honking.

The convoy was a way to honour a fallen driver, Chuck Stevenson, who passed away on Aug. 26.

Stevenson worked for Len’s Transportation Group for 12 years.

The convoy left 176 Street at 57 Avenue just after 3 p.m. Sept. 28, and headed north – lights flashing, hazards on – to Shannon Hall on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds at 176 Street and 60 Avenue.

There, drivers formed a semi-circle and blasted their horns for a final salute.

It’s customary for those in the trucking industry to honour fallen colleagues in this way.http://raven.b-it.ca/portals/uploads/cloverdale/.DIR288/wTruckConvoy2.jpg
