For the sixth year running, Simon Fraser University is one of the top 60 employers to work for in British Columbia.

And Kwantlen Polytechnic University has been recognized as a top employer in the province for the seventh consecutive time.

Mediacorp Canada, the country’s leading employment periodicals publisher, has just published its annual list. The list and the reasons why the winners were recognized (including SFU Surrey) can be found at http://www.eluta.ca/, Mediacorp’s web-based search engine.

This award is in addition to two others from Mediacorp Canada for 2013. SFU was also named one of Canada’s Top 100 employers and one of Canada’s most family-friendly workplaces for the sixth consecutive time.

Among key accomplishments establishing SFU as a top employer provincially and nationally are:

•    New urban living options at the UniverCity development project, one of the most innovative and progressive urban development projects in North America;

•    Defined-benefit and defined-contribution pension plans, as well as health benefits that extend through retirement, with no age limit;

•    Generous maternity and parental leave top-up payments for new mothers, fathers, and adoptive parents (to 100 per cent of salary for 37 weeks) and an on-site daycare facility.

“We are extremely proud that KPU has once again been recognized as one of B.C.'s top employers,” said Dr. Alan Davis, president and vice-chancellor of Kwantlen. “Such recognition would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of our internal Kwantlen community and their contributions to KPU’s university life.”

Now entering its ninth year, BC's Top Employers is an annual competition organized by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers. This special designation recognizes the British Columbia employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. For more information visit: CanadasTop100.com/bc

The key factors used to assess both SFU and Kwantlen included physical workplace; work and social atmosphere; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
