Residents of the Cloverdale and Clayton areas now have a location for dropping off small appliances for recycling.
Starting Oct. 1 both the Langley Thrift Store at 19868 Langley Bypass (open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and the Langley Bottle Depot at 20137 Industrial Avenue in Langley are ready to receive broken or old items.
They'll take everything from electric toothbrushes and microwaves to vacuum cleaners (some 120 types in all), through the new Unplugged small appliance recycling program.

Unplugged, the first program of its type in Canada, aims to divert approximately 2 million small appliances sent to landfills each year.
It's offered through the Canadian Electrical Stewardship Association. There's no cost to drop items off; Unplugged is a non-profit program paid for by recycling fees on new products by small appliance manufacturers and retailers.
Other items include air fresheners, hair dryers, coffee makers, clocks, microwaves and bathroom scales.Follow the Cloverdale Reporter on
