A donation of over 5,000 books has been made to Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Coast Capital Savings Library. Barrie Brill, a history instructor at Langara College from 1968 to 2009 has generously donated his rich collection comprised of books on early European history.
“Knowing Barrie’s passion for history and books, and having a high regard for his scholarship I had no hesitation in saying Kwantlen would be interested in his library,” says Linda Woodcock, librarian, Kwantlen Polytechnic University. “After consultation with Linda Rogers, our history liaison and selections librarian, and Tracey Kinney, the chair of the history department, we all agreed this collection would be a great benefit to Kwantlen’s Coast Capital Savings Library.”
The generous donation reflects the working life of a professional historian, and will greatly enrich Kwantlen’s library collection. With thousands of new additions students will have access to a greater diversity of scholarly material and a variety of fresh resources.
Included in the collection are important primary and secondary works in medieval and early European history, art history, church history, economic history, politics and government, social history and representative literature. Over 250 boxes arrived at Kwantlen, and it is expected the selection, cataloguing and processing of such a large gift will be a long term project.
“We are delighted to have professor Brill's donation form part of our library collection at Kwantlen,” says Todd Mundle, university librarian, Kwantlen Polytechnic University. “It will provide a depth of resources in early European history that we would not have been able to build ourselves. Students and faculty for many years to come will benefit from this generous offer.”
