Management change at Langley airport

Township to assume responsibility for management of Langley Regional Airport.

Management of Langley Regional Airport is to revert to the Township.

Information released on Monday from an Oct. 22 in camera meeting reveals that council is seeking to hire one full-time and one part-time employee to manage the airport.

It is currently run under contract to Avcon Consulting, which is owned by current airport manager George Miller. He runs the airport with his son, Guy. Both are pilots.

The senior Miller has been the driving force behind the airport’s success, attracting dozens of businesses and establishing the port as the largest concentration of rotary wing firms in the country.

While the engineering division will assume responsibility for infrastructure maintenance at the airport, leasing issues will be controlled by Township administrator Mark Bakken.

The new arrangement is not expected to increase the budget already allocated to the airport, according to the information released on Nov. 5.
